Camera and WiFi upgrades
At the Bahamas Humane Society (BHS), the most critical work often happens outdoors—in the exercise yards, the recovery paddocks, and the intake areas. To ensure the animals receive the highest standard of care, the Friends of the Bahamas Humane Society is launching a dedicated fundraising drive to provide BHS with a vital infrastructure grant.
This grant will fund: Comprehensive WiFi Expansion and High-Definition Security Monitoring for the BHS grounds.
Finishing the Foundation: From Inside to Out
This project is the essential “Phase Two” of a long-term modernization plan. In 2025, thanks to a previous grant, the BHS successfully rewired their entire main building with high-speed cabling and upgraded their internal WiFi.
However, the BHS staff’s work doesn’t stop at the exit doors. Currently, there is a “digital wall” at the threshold of the building. Our goal is to break that wall down. By extending the high-speed network established in 2025 into the outdoor spaces, we ensure that the BHS team has the tools they need wherever they are on the property.
Why This Grant is Critical
The Bahamas Humane Society relies on shelter management software to track every animal’s medical history, dietary needs, and behavioral progress. Here is how your donation to Friends of BHS will directly impact their daily operations:
Real-Time Data Entry: Currently, staff must memorize or jot down notes in the yards and wait until they are back inside to update records. With expanded WiFi, they can use their tablets to update animal files in the moment, improving accuracy in medical and behavioral tracking.
Behavioral Monitoring & Safety: New HD cameras will provide continuous recording of the outdoor paddocks. This allows the BHS team to observe how new kennel mates interact without a human presence “spoiling” the natural behavior, helping to prevent conflicts and ensure animal safety.
Solving the “Houdini” Mystery: Security footage will help the maintenance team identify exactly how certain “escape artist” dogs are navigating the fences, allowing for targeted repairs to keep them secure.
24/7 Security: Enhanced monitoring protects the animals, the dedicated staff, and the facility from unauthorized access and external threats.
The Goal: A Fully Connected BHS
